Why?

The aim of the project is to meet the condition necessary to start the process of improving the quality of both mainstream and inclusive and special education for students requiring communication and teaching using Polish Sign Language.

Polish Sign Language formally operates in the education system in Poland based on Article 24 UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and 3.1 of the Regulation of the Minister of National Education of March 28, 2017, on framework curricula for public schools.

Training on Polish Sign Language is also in the Act of August 19, 2011, on sign language and other means of communication.

However, to date, no educational standards exist. There is no basis for developing teaching in the field of or using the Polish Sign Language. The problem of the lack of standards describing competences in sign languages has been recognized as well at the European level. In the years 2012-2015, sign language specialists developed the Common European Framework of Reference for Sign Languages.
